Stephanie Gibson
I earned my bachelors degree in Psychological Science from California State University San Marcos. My academic journey allowed me to delve into the complexities of human behavior, emotions and relationships - laying the groundwork for my passions and strengths in practice. I have experience in working with individuals, specifically adolescents, young adults and those with disabilities. Prior to obtaining my master’s degree, I worked four years in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA Therapy) and developed a genuine passion for this line of work. Here is where I advanced my understanding and application of the connection between our thoughts, feelings and behaviors and how integrated these aspects are in each one of us. During my practicum at Murrieta Valley Unified School District, I had the privilege of working with individuals and adolescents as they navigated this developmental milestone. We worked collaboratively to navigate their unique needs and overcome stressors they were faced with.
I’m dedicated to supporting individuals on their journey of self-discovery and personal growth. As well as supporting couples and families as they progress through the repair process to build deeper connections, more effective communication, and develop practices to support their relational needs and desires. I have a passion for person-centered therapy, attachment theory, and DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy). I employ these theories in session and view you as the expert of your own life. I believe you possess inner wisdom and the resources necessary to promote your own healing and growth. I utilize attachment theory, which together we’ll look at your earliest relationships to better understand how this history influences you today and through the work of DBT, we’ll practice mindfulness and develop skill sets that enhance your capacity for navigating change, stressors and inner growth. In couples and families work, I utilize Emotionally-Focused therapy, Gottman Theory and IFS (Internal Family Systems) to uncover our unmet needs and explore the parts of ourselves shared within your relationship(s) waiting to flourish. I believe we’re more than our experiences, more than our thoughts, and more than our feelings. With this viewpoint, I utilize a bio-psycho-social-spiritual model to build upon your unique strengths to enhance your well-being and bring about a great quality of life.
My therapeutic style is marked by acceptance, empathy, compassion, active listening and collaboration. I welcome feedback and encourage your most authentic self to show up in session. Together we’ll work collaboratively to uncover insights, develop coping strategies and facilitate positive changes in alignment with your unique needs and goals.
Essentially, I believe we are meant to evolve as humans throughout our lifetime and in doing so, we achieve greater meaning and develop a deeper connection to ourselves, others and the world around us. Growth is not linear, nor is therapy. The therapeutic process can be uncomfortable and even messy at times, but I assure you it is no more uncomfortable than remaining stuck in a whatever challenge you may be facing. Together we’ll step out of your comfort zone and lean into the growth zone to help support you as you journey along the road of evolving into the greatest version of yourself.
